When you wrap your bird in the towel, be careful of flightier, more resistant breeds. Sometimes they'll try to flap their wings, or push out with their feet. I definitely found this out with a pullet who kept attempting to get out. So, when you wrap your bird up, press him or her down firmly but gently with your hand on their back and wings. Geese will have no problem with the process above. They love it!
And when I finish washing the bird (in fine weather) I usually wrap him or her in a towel and lay them on their side, this prevents flapping too, and lay them in a show cage in the sun.
Also, when they are dry, I put mite powder on, this is just in case.
DO NOT PUT THE CHICKEN ON BARE DIRT! I have had to wash so many chickens twice!
